MORAVIAN TO INDUCT FOUR INTO ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME ON OCTOBER 17TH
JOE HOFFMEIER NAMED HERBSTMAN AWARD WINNER

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Douglas Durepo (Sarasota, FL); Alan Heverly (Bethlehem, PA); Thomas Ike (Allentown, PA) and Vince Seaman (Bethlehem, PA) make up the class of 2008 that will be inducted into the Moravian College Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, October 17 in Johnston Hall. Also being honored at the 2008 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be Joe Hoffmeier (Bethlehem, PA) with the Robert Martin Herbstman Award and the 1975-76 men’s basketball  team.

Durepo, a 1994 Moravian graduate, was a three-year standout on the football team at Moravian.  Durepo, who transferred to Moravian from the United States Naval Academy, helped the Greyhounds to a 21-10 record in his three seasons including a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth League title and a berth in the NCAA Division III Playoffs in 1993.  Durepo caught 120 career passes for 1,577 yards as a tight end, currently ranking third in career receptions and sixth in yardage.  He earned First-Team All-American on the Champion/USA team and the third-team on the Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-America Team as a senior in 1993, and Durepo was 1993 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year.  He was a three-time member of the MAC All-Star Team, earning first team honors twice, and he was on the Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Star Team twice.  Durepo, who works for the Gulf Coast Fire & Safety, lives in Sarasota, Florida, with his fiancé Natalia Valdivia.

Heverly, who graduated from Moravian in 1996, was a two-year member of the men’s tennis team at Moravian.  Heverly had a 21-8 career singles record after transferring from Bucks County (PA) Community College, where he made two appearances in the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament.  As a senior, Heverly helped the Greyhounds to the MAC Commonwealth League title as the team won a school record 13 matches with a 13-3 record.  Also in 1996, he earned a spot on the GTE Academic All-America First Team while earning spots on the MAC All-Academic Team in each of his two seasons.  Heverly also served as a team captain, and he was selected as the team’s most valuable player and the Moravian Co-Blue & Grey Senior Male Scholar-Athlete Award.  Heverly, who works for Via of the Lehigh Valley, lives in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with his wife Karen Heverly.

Ike, a member of the class of 1990, was a four-year letterwinner on the football team while attending Moravian.  Ike, a center on the offensive line, helped lead the Greyhounds to the 1988 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III Playoffs.  He earned All-MAC honors in 1989 as a senior as well as serving as a co-captain and earning Moravian’s Outstanding Offensive Lineman award.  Ike, who is a vice-president at Lutron Electronics Co., Inc., lives in Allentown, Pennsylvania with his wife, Kimberly Deischer Ike, Moravian class of 1991.  They have two children, Harrison (8) and Davis (5).

Seaman, who graduated in 1965, was a four-year standout on both the football and baseball teams for the Greyhounds.  Seaman was an offensive lineman, a defensive lineman and a kicker during his career.  Seaman kicked several game winning field goals in his career including one over Wilkes and a 30-yarder in a 3-0 victory over C.W. Post.  On the baseball field, Seaman was a pitcher, first baseman and outfielder.  He was named the Varsity “M” Club Outstanding Athlete Award winner in 1964, the Omicron Gamma Omega Scholar Athlete Award in 1965 and was Moravian’s National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1965.  Seaman, who retired in 1997 after 35 years as a teacher and administrator and is also a veteran of the Army Security Agency, lives in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania with his wife, Barbara Jean Krick.  They have two children: Barbara Colleen and Vincent, Jr. and three grandchildren; Rebecca, Elizabeth and Samantha.

Hoffmeier, a 1988 graduate, was a four-year letterwinner on the track & field team and a two-year letterwinner on the cross county squad at Moravian.   During his track career, Hoffmeier placed third at the 1987 MAC Indoor Championships in the 400-meter run, and he won numerous titles as part of the Greyhounds’ 4x400-meter relay team, including the first Moravian team to win the Pop Haddelton 4x400-meter relay at the Penn Relays.  Since graduating, Hoffmeier has remained active at his alma mater having been the president of the Lehigh Valley Alumni Club and the Blue & Grey Club.  He also served as the public address announcener for the Moravian women’s basketball team.  Hoffmeier, who works for Citi Smith Barney, lives in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania with his wife, Sue Hoffmeier.  They had three children: Marina (17), Mary Kate (9) and Joseph (6).

The 1975-76 men’s basketball team posted an 18-8 overall record and tied for MAC Southern Division Southwest Championship.
