MORAVIAN’S REMPE & MORRISSEY NAMED CENTENNIAL CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE & DEFENSIVE
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Reckenbeil Earns Spot on the Honor Roll

LANCASTER, PA --- Junior tailback Ryan Rempe (Dickson City, PA/Mid-Valley HS) of the Moravian College football team has been named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week while senior linebacker Andrew Morrissey (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS) earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for their performances in the Greyhounds’ 27-24 overtime Centennial Conference victory over rival Muhlenberg College Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem.

Senior kicker Brian Reckenbeil (Branchburg, PA/Somerville HS) earned a spot on the Centennial Conference Weekly Honor Roll.

Rempe, who was filling in for injured starting tailback Tyler McCambridge (Northampton, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) for the second time in three games, led the Greyhounds upset win over Muhlenberg with 180 yards and four touchdowns on 41 carries. He had touchdown runs of one, five, two and one yard again in overtime. Rempe, pictured at right, ran for his third straight 100-yard game and became the first Greyhound to run for four touchdowns in a game since Tim Barlok had four rushing touchdowns in a five-touchdown performance at Susquehanna University on October 28, 2000.  Rempe was named Moravian’s Most Valuable Player of the game, and he had one kickoff return to 18 yards.  Rempe has run for 461 yards and four touchdowns, all against Muhlenberg, on 124 carries in the Greyhounds last three games.  Rempe’s 41 carries against Muhlenberg are the fourth most in a game in school history, and he tied the school mark three weeks ago at Juniata College with 51 carries in Moravian’s triple-overtime win.

Morrissey, pictured at left, made 11 tackles in the game with six solo stops.  He had a sack for a loss of eight yards in the second quarter on which he forced a fumble that Muhlenberg recovered.  Morrissey forced the fumble that led to Moravian’s game-tying score with 54 seconds remaining in regulation, and he also had an interception with a 13-yard return in the final 15 seconds of the fourth quarter to stop a Muhlenberg drive and force overtime.  The turnovers were two of four Moravian forced in the game. The Greyhounds lead the conference and are in the top 20 in the nation in turnover margin, and Moravian was a plus-two in the victory.

Reckenbeil, pictured at right, continued his perfect season with three extra-points to help Moravian to a 27-24 overtime win over rival Muhlenberg College.  Reckenbeil is now 28-for-28 on the season, 57-for-57 as a kicker in the Centennial Conference and has made 66 straight extra-points.  He also kicked off four times with an average of 57.5 yards per kick, although one rolled out of bounds at the Muhlenberg nine-yard line.

The Greyhounds, who are 8-2 on the season and finished the Centennial Conference season at 6-2, will find out on Monday if the team has been awarded a berth into one of three ECAC Division Southern Bowl games.  Moravian has won eight games for just the fourth time in the program’s 84 yards and the first time since 1993.
