MORAVIAN WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD TEAM JUMPS TO 12TH IN THE NATION IN USTFCCCA RANKINGS

NEW ORLEANS, LA --- The Moravian College women’s track & field team jumped 12 spots to 12th in the nation in the fifth NCAA Division III Dual Meet Rankings of the 2009 season released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association late Wednesday.

The Greyhounds have a total of 134.61 points and remain the only team from the Mideast Region in the rankings.  The University of Wisconsin, La Crosse is ranked first with 155.10 points while Illinois Wesleyan University is second with 151.00 points.

A team's total point score is the sum of all points earned by that team in each event. Teams are allowed to select up to two athletes per event, and an athlete can only be used in a maximum of three events (not including relays). Only one relay team per event can be selected. Schools are responsible for submitting their own results. The points are based on the best marks in an event in the current season (it's not the athlete's personal best; it's their best this season), according to www.d3rankings.us which coordinates the poll.

Moravian will try to defend its Eastern College Athletic Conference title at the 2009 ECAC Indoor Championships being hosted by Tufts University on Friday, March 6th and Saturday, March 7th in Medford, Massachusetts.
