MORAVIAN’S WALT WANDALL HONORED AS MIDEAST REGION WOMEN'S INDOOR COACH OF THE YEAR BY USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS, LA --- Moravian College head coach Walt Wandall has been honored as the Mideast Region Women’s Coach of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Wednesday.

Wandall is in his first year as Moravian’s Director of Cross Country and Head Track & Field Coach, and he led the Greyhound women to their second straight Landmark Conference Indoor Championship and a runner-up finish at the 2009 ECAC Division III Indoor Championships.  Wandall has had Moravian ranked as high as 12th in the nation in the USTFCCCA Top 25 Dual Meet Rankings, and the team is ranked 17th in the country this week.

Wandall was named the Mideast Region Men’s Indoor Coach of the Year and the Men’s National Indoor Coach of the Year in 2008 while serving as Moravian’s interim head coach.  Wandall led the Greyhounds to their inaugural Landmark Conference Championship and a second place finish at the ECAC Division III Championships on the men’s side and the Landmark Conference and ECAC Championships for the women in 2008. 

Wandall took over the program after seven years as an assistant coach when former head coach Doug Pollard, last year’s USTFCCCA Women’s Mideast Region Coach of the Year, passed away suddenly in October 2007. 

Wandall has a total of three student-athletes from the women’s team, juniors Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS)Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy)  and Symonne Scott (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS) heading to the NCAA Division III National Championships this Friday and Saturday, March 13th and 14th at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.
