SIX GREYHOUND BASEBALL PLAYERS; TEAM RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Six members of the Moravian College baseball squad, and the Greyhound team are ranked in the fifth NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2009 season including games through April 19th.

Senior outfielder Joseph Durso (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brother Academy) is tied for eighth in the nation in doubles with 17 two-baggers in 47 hits in Moravian’s first 32 games of the season.  Durso, pictured at right, is also tied for 11th in doubles per game at 0.53, tied for 35th in RBIs with a school record 46 and 42nd in RBIs per game at 1.44.

Sophomore outfielder/shortstop Jason Huber (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS), pictured at left, is tied for 39th in the country in runs with a school record 45, and he is 39th in runs per game at 1.41.

Freshman first baseman Kevin O’Keefe (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton HS), pictured at right, is tied for 35th in the nation in RBIs per game at 1.46 and is 20th in RBIs per game with 1.53.

 

Freshman designated hitter/catcher Joe Bartolacci (Easton, PA/Notre Dame HS), pictured at left, is tied for 20th in sacrifice flies with five this season.

On the mound, freshman pitcher Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS), pictured at bottom right, is tied for 27th in the nation in strikeouts with 65, and he is 19th in strikeouts per nine innings with an average of 11.77.

Senior outfielder Eric Shea (Madison, NJ/Morristown Beard), pictured at bottom left, is tied for 42nd in hit by pitch per game with 0.39 while he is also ranked 47th in the nation in hit by pitch with 11 in all.

The Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in the nation in eight categories including being 29th in the nation in doubles with 81 and 23rd in doubles per game with an average of 2.53.  Moravian is 31st in strikeouts per nine innings with an average of 8.2, 45th in walks allowed per nine innings at 3.28, tied for 44th in runs with 285, 42nd in scoring with an average of 8.9 runs per game, tied for 33rd with 15 triples, and 39th in triples per game at 0.47.

Moravian, which is 17-15 on the season, is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 22nd in a non-conference game versus Arcadia University beginning at 4:00 p.m.
