MORAVIAN’S BRENDAN CLOSE NAMED LANDMARK CONFERENCE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

MADISON, NJ --- Freshman pitcher Thomas Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) of the Moravian College baseball team has been named the Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance last week.

Close, who was also the Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week on March 9th and April 13th, continued his outstanding freshman season, picking up his 6th win of the season and breaking the Moravian record for strikeouts in a season with 71.  Close tossed a complete game victory in Moravian's 8-1 win over Juniata College to clinch the second seed in the 2009 Landmark Conference Tournament.  He allowed just three hits and a walk to go with six strikeouts while taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning.

Moravian, which is 20-17 overall with a school record for victories and 12-6 in Landmark Conference action, is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 29th in a non-conference contest versus DeSales University beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Gillespie Field in Bethlehem.
