MORAVIAN’S SHERI BIENIEK & JENNA CARMON NAMED LANDMARK CONFERENCE
SOFTBALL PLAYER & PITCHER OF THE WEEK

MADISON, NJ --- Senior first baseman Sheri Bieniek (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley HS) of the Moravian College softball team has been named the Landmark Conference Softball Player of the Week while freshman pitcher/designated player Jenna Carmon (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central HS) garnered Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week accolades for their performances last week.

The duo helped Moravian win its second straight Landmark Conference Championship, and the tenth consecutive conference title for the Greyhound program.

Bieniek, pictured at right, helped Moravian win the Landmark Conference Championship by hitting .545 last week with six hits in 11 at-bats to go with six RBIs and a double.  Bieniek was four-for-five with three RBIs in Moravian's 4-3, 11-inning win over Susquehanna University in the winner's bracket game, and she was three-for-four with three more RBIs in the Greyhounds' 6-5, nine-inning win over Susquehanna for the championship.  At first base, Bieniek recorded 27 putouts, one assist and her first error of the season in 275 chances.

Carmon, pictured at left, went 1-0 with a save to help Moravian in the Landmark Conference Tournament.  Carmon tossed the last inning in the Greyhounds' opening round win over Catholic University of America, allowing one hit for her second save of the season.  Carmon then pitched all 11 innings in Moravian's 4-3, 11-inning win over Susquehanna to advance to the championship round.  Carmon allowed three runs, one earned, on ten hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  After giving up the go ahead runs in the top of the 11th inning, Carmon delivered the game-winning hit as Moravian scored three times in the bottom of the 11th for the win.

Moravian, which is 34-9 overall, received one of five Pool B/Independent berths to the 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament with action beginning on Thursday, May 7th.  The Greyhounds are the fourth seed in an eight-team regional being played at Ramapo College of New Jersey in Mahwah, New Jersey.  Moravian will take on fifth seed Eastern Connecticut State University at 12:00 p.m. Thursday in the second game of the regional that runs through Sunday, May 10th.  The winner of the regional will advance to the 2009 NCAA Division III Works Series being hosted by Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey beginning on Friday, May 15th.
