FOUR GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO 2009 ECAC DIVISION III SOUTH ALL-STAR TEAMS;
BIENIEK & CARMON NAMED TO FIRST TEAM

CAPE COD, MA --- Senior first baseman Sheri Bieniek (Lumberton, PA/Rancocas Valley HS) and freshman pitcher/designated player Jenna Carmon (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central HS) of the Moravian College softball team have been named to the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South All-Star First Team announced by the ECAC.  Senior outfielder Erica Klelpeisz (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) and senior pitcher/designated player Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame HS) earned spots on the All-Star Second Team.

The Greyhounds under the direction of 16-year head coach John Byrne, who as a career mark of 510-158, posted a 35-11 overall record this spring, the 16th consecutive season that Moravian has won at least 23 games, and an 11-1 mark in Landmark Conference regular season action.  The Greyhounds, which have won over 30games ten times under Byrne including the lasteight years, won their tenth straight conference title with a second straight Landmark Conference Championship, and the program played in the conference tournament for the 14th time in 15 years.  Moravian also received a berth to the 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament, its 11th berth in the last 12 years.

Bieniek, who was named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in 2009, hit .353 in her final season with 47 hits in 133 at-bats, and she had team highs of 13 doubles, five home runs and 44 RBIs.  Bieniek, who was on the 2009 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-East Region First Team, added a .564 slugging percentage, seven walks, five sacrifice flies and a total of nine sacrifice hits.  In the field, Bieniek, pictured at right, had 289 putouts and nine assists in 299 chances at first base and catcher during the year.

Carmon, who was named the Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Year and to the Landmark All-Conference First Team, posted a 14-1 record in the circle with 12 straight victories to finish the year.  She also had two saves and four shutouts this season while posting a 0.81 ERA.  Carmon tossed 103 2/3 innings with just 70 hits allowed, 18 runs, 12 earned runs, just four walks allowed and 39 strikeouts in her debut season.  Carmon, pictured at left, also had a .313 batting average with 35 hits in 112 at-bats to go with 25 runs, 14 RBIs, 16 walks, eight doubles and three stolen bases.  Carmon has 30 putouts and 45 assists in 80 chances in the field while seeing action at second base as well as in the circle.

Klepeisz, who earned a spot on the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-East Region Second Team in 2006, 2007 and 2009, hit .346 with 44 hits in 127 at-bats to go with 27 runs, 20 RBIs, four doubles, three triples, two homers, a .472 slugging percentage, ten walks and three stolen bases.  Klepeisz, pictured at bottom right, added 55 putouts and four assists in 60 chances while playing left and center fields during the season, and she has been named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team each of the last two years.  Klepeisz was on the ECAC All-Star First Team in 2007.

DeBonis, who was named a Louisville Slugger/NFCA Second Team All-American in 2007 when Moravian reached the World Series, had a 14-8 record in the circle this spring.  She added four shutouts, a save and a 1.24 ERA to go with 92 hits allowed, 45 runs, 27 earned runs, 46 walks and 161 strikeouts in 152 innings of action.  At the plate, DeBonis, pictured at bottom left, had a .346 average with 45 hits in 130 at-bats, 27 runs, 25 RBIs, nine doubles, a triple, two homers, 19 walks and three stolen bases.  DeBonis, who was the Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Year last season while making the Landmark All-Conference First Team as both a pitcher and a designated player each of the last two years, also has seven putouts and 14 assists in 23 chances in the field.  DeBonis made the NFCA All-Region First Team in 2007 and 2008 and the All-Region Third Team in 2009.  DeBonis was on the ECAC South All-Star First Team the past two seasons.
