MORAVIAN’S ERICA KLEPEISZ & DYANA SWAN SELECTED AS LANDMARK CONFERENCE SENIOR SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

MADISON, NJ --- Moravian College seniors Erica Klepeisz (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) and Dyana Swan (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS) have been selected as Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athletes for their respective spring sports of softball and women’s tennis.

A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the sports sponsored by the conference. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities. It is the most exclusive award given out by the conference with just 20 honorees for each academic year.  Moravian has had four student-athletes honored in the two years that the Landmark Conference has existed.

The other 2009 Landmark winter and spring sport Senior Scholar Athletes were: Baseball: Chris Psihoules, The University of Scranton; Men’s Basketball: Joel Patch, Susquehanna University; Women’s Basketball: Kristen Hetsko, United States Merchant Marine Academy; Men’s Indoor Track & Field: Ray Snarski, Susquehanna University; Women’s Indoor Track & Field: Kelsey Buffenmyer, Juniata College; Men’s Lacrosse: Alex Boucher, Goucher College; Women’s Lacrosse: Marlo Tersigni, Goucher College; Men’s Outdoor Track & Field: Jalon Orzolek, Susquehanna University; Women’s Outdoor Track & Field: Kristen Kennedy, The Catholic University of America; Men’s Swimming & Diving: John Klocke, United States Merchant Marine Academy; Women’s Swimming & Diving: Bethany Natoli, Goucher College; Men’s Tennis: David Hume, United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Klepeisz, pictured at right, was a four-year standout for the Moravian softball team and closed her career with a host of academic and athletic honors. She was a three-time All-Region selection and four-team All-Conference choice, including capturing first-team honors three times. She closed her career tied for second in Moravian history with 191 hits and is in the top-5 in a host of other career categories. She earned a joint degree in elementary education and history, and was twice chosen to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team. Klepeisz earned Landmark All-Academic distinction this season, was a four time Dean’s List honoree and was a member of both the history and education honor societies.

Swan , pictured at left, capped a strong four-year career for the Moravian women’s tennis program by helping the team claim its second Landmark Championship. She was a first-team All-Conference selection in her senior year for both singles and doubles play, and it marked the fourth All-Conference honor of her career. She closed her career with 40 doubles wins, which ranked fourth in school history. Swan twice earned Landmark Academic Honor Roll status and was a two-time ITA Scholar Athlete. She earned a degree in elementary education and mathematics at Moravian and was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi education honor society.  Swan was also named Moravian’s 2009 Blue & Grey Senior Female Scholar-Athlete.
