LILBURN, GA --- The Moravian College women’s basketball team, which has a 5-1 overall record, has jumped from receiving votes to 23rd in the nation in the third USA Today/ESPN Division III Top 25 Coaches’ Poll of the season announced Tuesday by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.  The complete poll can be viewed at http://www.wbca.org/DIIICoachesPoll.asp.

The Greyhounds, under the direction of 22-year head coach Mary Beth Spirk, received votes last week for the first time this year in the second poll of the season.  The last time Moravian was nationally ranked by the WBCA was during the 2005-06 season when the team reached the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Moravian, which is 1-0 in Landmark Conference action, received 32 points in the poll after having just two points last week.

Kean University (NJ) is the top team in the poll by receiving seven first place votes and 245 points while the University of Rochester (NY) is second with 239 points and two first-place votes.

Moravian’s only loss of the season is an 80-58 setback at Rochester on November 22nd.  The Greyhounds defeated 16th-ranked DeSales University, 67-63 on November 25th in Johnston Hall, and Moravian will play 18th-ranked Muhlenberg College on Monday, December 15th at 6:00 p.m. at Memorial Hall in Allentown.

Moravian will return to action on Friday, December 12th in a non-conference game versus NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in Johnston Hall at 7:00 p.m.  The Greyhounds will be participating in the NCAA Take a Kid to the Game on Friday with all children under 13 getting in free with an adult.
