GREYHOUNDS RANKED SECOND IN FIRST NCAA DIVISION III REGIONAL RANKING OF 2008-09 SEASON

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- The Moravian College women’s basketball team is ranked second in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the first NCAA Division III Regional Rankings released publicly Wednesday.

The Greyhounds, who are 18-4 overall and had an 8-3 mark in Landmark Conference action, are 16-4 in regional action, the main basis for the rankings.  Moravian has played several regionally ranked teams this season, defeating third ranked Muhlenberg College, 98-87, fourth ranked DeSales University, 67-63, and fifth ranked The University of Scranton, 57-45.  One of Moravian’s four losses is to The University of Rochester, 80-58, which is ranked first in the East Region; however, the game counts in Moravian’s in-region record.  The Greyhounds also have a win over The College of New Jersey, 86-72, which is fourth in the Atlantic Region, and that game also counts in Moravian’s in-region record.

The complete poll can be found at http://www.ncaa.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/ncaa/sports/w-baskbl/auto_pdf/Rankings-DIIIWBB-21109.  There are two more regular season polls to be released on February 18th and February 25th.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, February 14th in a Landmark Conference contest versus Goucher College beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Johnston Hall.  Moravian will be wearing its pink uniforms as the team participates in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Pink Zone initiative for cancer awareness.
