MORAVIAN’S BISCI & WEAVER NAMED LEHIGH VALLEY SMALL COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS OF THE YEAR;

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Juniors Alyssa Bisci (Easton, PA/Easton HS) and Eric Weaver (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury HS) from the Moravian College basketball teams have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Teams of the Year by the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization at its third luncheon of the 2008-09 season at Starters Restaurant in Bethlehem. 

The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the seven small college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III schools Cedar Crest College, Delaware Valley College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College.

Bisci, a forward, has helped the Moravian women to a 20-4 overall record and a 10-3 record in Landmark Conference action.  Bisci is tied for the team lead on the Moravian squad in scoring with an average of 11.6 points per game, and she is grabbing 5.2 rebounds per contest which is tied for third on the squad.  Bisci has added 23 assists, 25 steals, eight three-pointers and four blocked shots while starting all 23 games she has played in this season.  Bisci is currently ranked third in the country in free throw percentage at 91.2 percent, having made 114 of 125 free throw attempts.

Joining Bisci on the Team of the Year were LaKeema Jones from Cedar Crest, Kim Vennera of Delaware Valley, LeighAnn Burke from DeSales, Jackie Yandrisevits of East Stroudsburg, Melissa McQuade from Kutztown and Lauren Boyle of Muhlenberg.  Burke was selected as the Pete Nevins Women’s Player of the Year for the second straight season in a vote by the media, coaches and sports information directors in attendance.

Weaver, a forward, has helped the Greyhounds to a 10-14 overall record and a 5-9 mark in Landmark Conference action.  Weaver leads the Moravian squad in scoring at 13.4 points per game, and he also leads the team in rebounding at 5.0 rebounds per contest.  Weaver has added 34 assists, 18 steals, 21 three-pointers and three blocked shots while being the only player on the team to start all 24 games this season.  He leads Moravian at the foul line, having made 106 of 129 free throw attempts (82.2 percent).

Joining Weaver on the Team of the Year were James Jones of Delaware Valley, Darnell Braswell from DeSales, Chris Bach of East Stroudsburg, Dave Ben from Kutztown and Peter Barnes of Muhlenberg.  Ben was selected as the Pete Nevins Men’s Player of the Year for the third consecutive year.
