MORAVIAN MEN’S LACROSSE TEAM SELECTED SIXTH IN LANDMARK CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL
MADISON, N.J. --- The 2009 Moravian College men’s lacrosse team has been picked to finish seventh in the Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.
Drew University captured every first-place vote to finish with 48 points in the balloting. The University of Scranton and Goucher College had a tight battle for the next two spots with Scranton placing second with 41 points and Goucher just three points back with 38. The United States Merchant Marine Academy rounded out the top-four with 34 points in the voting. The Catholic University of America was ranked just ahead of the Greyhounds with 25 points, while Susquehanna University fell just behind Moravian with 11 points.
Moravian is looking to be a contender in the Landmark Conference this season after a 4-12 mark last year that saw the Greyhounds drop many close games. The Greyhounds, under the direction of head coach Fran Meagher, are going into only their sixth season as a varsity sport at Moravian. Coach Meagher returns 13 letterwinners going into the 2008 season.
The Greyhounds begin their 2009 season on Saturday, February 21st in a non-conference match versus Montclair State University beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field. Moravian’s first Landmark Conference match of the season will be on Saturday, March 21st at Drew University beginning at 1:00 p.m.
