GREYHOUNDS DROP TO SECOND IN LATEST NCAA DIVISION III REGIONAL RANKINGS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- The Moravian College women’s basketball team dropped one spot to second in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the third NCAA Division III Regional Rankings released publicly Wednesday.

The Greyhounds, who are 20-5 overall and had a 10-4 mark in Landmark Conference regular season action, are 18-5 in regional action, the main basis for the rankings.  Moravian has played several regionally ranked teams this season, defeating top ranked The University of Scranton, 57-45, third ranked Muhlenberg College, 98-87, fourth ranked DeSales University, 67-63, and sixth ranked Alvernia College, 80-64.  The Greyhounds also fell to Scranton, 70-55, this past Saturday.

One of Moravian’s five losses is to The University of Rochester, 80-58, which is ranked first in the East Region; however, the game counts in Moravian’s in-region record.  The Greyhounds also have a win over The College of New Jersey, 86-72, which is third in the Atlantic Region, and that game also counts in Moravian’s in-region record.

The complete poll can be found at http://www.ncaa.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/ncaa/sports/w-baskbl/auto_pdf/DIIIWBK22509RegionalII.  This is the final public ranking of the season, although the NCAA Committee will rank the region once more before selecting the 2009 NCAA Division III Tournament field that will be announced on Monday, March 3rd at 11:00 a.m. on a webcast at www.ncaa.com.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Wednesday, February 25th when second seeded Moravian hosts third seeded Juniata College in a Landmark Conference Semifinal game in Johnston Hall at 7:00 p.m.
