MORAVIAN MEN’S SOCCER TEAM PICKED SIXTH IN LANDMARK CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College men’s soccer team has been selected sixth in the 2009 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

The Drew University was picked first in the poll with 89 points, 15 points ahead of second place The Catholic University of America with 74 points. Susquehanna University, the defending Landmark Conference Champions, was selected third with 70 points while The University of Scranton was fourth with 64 points.  The United States Merchant Marine Academy earned 51 points for the fifth spot while the Greyhounds had 27 points in sixth place.  Rounding out the poll are Juniata College with 24 points in seventh place and Goucher College in eighth place with 21 points.

The Moravian program has high expectations going into the 2009 season with the return of 20 letterwinners and eight starters. First-year head coach Todd Ervin inherits a squad coming off of a 6-9-2 season and looks to challenge for a Landmark Conference playoff berth.  The team is currently in Italy on a summer tour and will begin practice on campus next week.

The Greyhounds begin their 2009 season on Tuesday, September 1st when they host Ursinus College in a non-conference match beginning at 4:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad.  Moravian will begin Landmark Conference action on Saturday, September 26th versus Drew in a 3:30 p.m. match.
