MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women’s cross country team has been selected fifth in the 2009 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Defending Landmark Conference Champion Susquehanna University was selected first in the poll with 77 points, ten points ahead of The University of Scranton with 67 points. Juniata College was third with 60 points while The Catholic University of America was in fourth place with 55 points.  The Greyhounds earned 42 points for the fifth spot, and rounding out the poll were Drew University in sixth place with 29 points, Goucher College with 22 points and The United States Merchant Marine Academy in seventh place with 12 points.

Moravian looks to challenge for the Landmark Conference Championship with the return a majority of its top runners including eight letterwinners on the women’s squad with sophomore All-Conference runners Hailey Neff (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton HS) and Kristina Ruggiero (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove HS) back. Fourth-year head coach Welles Lobb looks into building his young teams up enough to be a top competitor in the Landmark Conference.  The team begins its preseason next week.

The Greyhounds open their 2009 season on Friday, September 4th at the Lehigh Valley Games hosted by Lehigh University on the Goodman Campus at 5:30 p.m.  The 2009 Landmark Conference championship meet will be held on Saturday, October 31st and hosted by The Catholic University of America.
