MORAVIAN WOMEN’S TENNIS NAMED ITA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM;
THREE GREYHOUNDS NAMED ITA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

SKILLMAN, NJ --- The 2008-09 Moravian College women’s tennis team, which won its second straight Landmark Conference title, has been named a 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team for the eighth consecutive year.

Three of the Greyhounds’ individual players, senior Dyana Swan (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS) and freshmen Jami Fein (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon HS) and Alexandra Hay (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South HS) earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for maintaining at least a 3.50 GPA, earning a varsity letter and being enrolled for at least two semesters.  A total of 2.054 student-athletes were honored.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).  All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA eligibility form and have competed in one or more matches are averaged into the cumulative grade point average for the current year (including fall 2008 and spring 2009).

A total of 344 men’s and women’s teams from NCAA schools earned the ITA All-Academic Award, while 19 men’s and women’s programs from NAIA schools and seven junior colleges were honored with the largest number, 113 programs, coming from the NCAA Division I women’s programs.

Moravian was one of 73 NCAA Division III women’s teams to win the ITA All-Academic Team award.

Swan, who was on the Landmark All-Conference First Team as a doubles player in 2008 and the Landmark All-Conference First Team in singles and doubles in 2009, had a 9-10 singles slate of her own this season with a 9-9 record at second singles.  Swan, pictured at right, finished her career tied for fourth in school history with 40 career doubles victories.

Fein, who was named the 2009 Landmark Conference Player and Rookie of the Year while earning spots on the Landmark All-Conference First Team in singles and doubles, had an 18-2 singles record in her debut season, tying for third in the school record book for singles wins in a season, and she had a 14-2 mark at first singles.  In doubles action, Swan and Fein, pictured at left, were 14-5 at first doubles, tied for the fourth most doubles victories in a single season.

Hay was 15-7 in singles action in her debut season with a 13-6 mark at fifth singles.  Hay, pictured at bottom right, had a 2-2 doubles mark on the year.

Moravian begins its 2009-10 season on Saturday, September 5th as the Greyhounds host a four-team invitational at the Lehigh University Goodman Courts with Bryn Mawr College, Cabrini College and Ramapo College of New Jersey.
