MORAVIAN WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL SQUAD SELECTED THIRD IN LANDMARK CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women’s volleyball squad has been picked third in the 2009 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Juniata College, the two-time defending Landmark Conference Champion, was selected first in the poll with 60 points, eight points ahead of second place Susquehanna University with 52 points. The Greyhounds earned 35 points for the third spot while The Catholic University of America was selected fourth with 34 points.  Rounding out the poll were The University of Scranton with 31 points in fifth place, Goucher College in sixth place with 30 points and the United States Merchant Marine Academy in seventh place with 10 points.

Moravian has its sights set on a fifth straight trip to the postseason in 2009 with the return of five starters and eight letterwinners. The Greyhounds look to challenge for a berth into the Landmark Conference Tournament.  Head coach Shelley Bauder also looks for improvement over last year’s 14-19 record that reached the semifinals of the Landmark Conference tournament for the second straight year.

The Greyhounds begin their 2009 season on Tuesday, September 1st with a non-conference match at Swarthmore College, and then Moravian hosts the 7th Annual Greyhound Premiere Tournament in Johnston Hall and Breidegam Fieldhouse on September 4th & 5th.  The Landmark Conference will play two round-round weekends during the season with the first scheduled for Moravian on October 3rd & 4th.
