EIGHT MORAVIAN FOOTBALL PLAYERS NAMED TO CENTENNIAL CONFERENCE FALL ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL

LANCASTER, PA --- Seniors linebacker Michael Bishop (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) and quarterback Patrick Weiss (Gilbertsville, PA/St. Pius X HS), juniors fullback Michael Crann (Columbia, NJ/North Warren Regional HS), wide receiver Alex Hersch (Macungie, PA/Emmaus HS) and defensive linemen Michael McClarin (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) and Allen Petros (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) and sophomores linebacker/long snapper Douglas DiMattia (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove HS) and running back Phillip Redline (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe HS) have been named to the 2009 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.

The Centennial Conference recognized 331 student-athletes for performance in the classroom and field of play including 56 football players.  To be nominated for the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll, a student must meet the following criteria: be a starter or key reserve on the team, a sophomore or higher in class standing and have a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher.

Bishop, pictured at right, has played in all nine games this season for Moravian, seeing time on special teams as well as linebacker and defensive end.  Bishop, who was on the 2008 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, has five tackles this season.  Bishop is majoring in accounting.

Weiss, pictured at left, has played in three games this fall for the Greyhounds.  He has completed eight of 30 passes for 103 yards, and has been intercepted five times.  Weiss has also added 28 yards on nine carries including a 32-yard run in the season opener at Susquehanna University, and he caught a pass that was batted back to him in a game versus at Johns Hopkins University.  Weiss is majoring in business management.

Crann, pictured at right, moved from linebacker to fullback this season for Moravian and has played in seven games.  He has two carries for nine yards, and Crann has seen action on special teams for the Greyhounds.  Crann, who was on the 2008 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, is majoring in business management.

Hersch, pictured at left, has started eight games this season for the Greyhounds.  He is second on the team with 16 receptions for 230 yards including a season long reception of 40 yards against Juniata College.  Hersch also has three punt returns for nine yards and a tackle this fall.  Hersch, who was on the 2008 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, is majoring in accounting.

McClarin, pictured at right, has started every game for the Greyhounds this season at defensive end.  He has 34 tackles with five and a half for loss and a pass break-up this season.  McClarin, who transferred to Moravian last fall from the United States Naval Academy, is majoring in secondary education and mathematics.

Petros, pictured at left, played in seven games, starting six at defensive end for Moravian with an injury forcing him to miss two games.  He has made 37 tackles this fall including team highs of ten tackles for loss and four sacks to go with two pass break-ups.  Petros, who transferred to Moravian last fall from the Bloomsburg University, is majoring in biology/pre-med.

DiMattia , pictured at right, has played in all nine games for the Greyhounds this season as the team’s long snapper on punts.  DiMattia has not decided on a major.

Redline, pictured at left, has played in four games, starting three for Moravian.  He has contributed 77 yards on 29 carries, and Redline has caught four passes out of the backfield for 52 yards this fall.  Redline has not decided on a major.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, November 14th in their 2009 season finale, a Centennial Conference game at Muhlenberg College, kicking off at 1:00 p.m. at Scotty Wood Stadium in Allentown.
