FOUR GREYHOUNDS EARN ALL-CENTENNIAL CONFERENCE FOOTBALL HONORS
Payne Named to First Team

LANCASTER, PA --- The Moravian College football team has had four players named to the 2009 All-Centennial Conference Football Teams announced Monday with sophomore defensive lineman Seth Payne (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood HS), pictured at right, earning first team honors.

The Greyhounds had one All-Centennial Conference Second Team honoree with senior running back Ryan Rempe (Dickson City, PA/Mid-Valley HS) making the offensive squad.  Junior defensive lineman Allen Petros (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) and junior defensive back Daniel Burley (Easton, PA/Easton HS) earned All-Centennial Conference Honorable Mention.

Moravian finished its 2009 season with a 2-8 record, and the Greyhounds were 2-6 in Centennial Conference action.  The Moravian defense held all but one Centennial Conference offense below its season average, and the Greyhounds kept four teams – Muhlenberg College, Dickinson College, Franklin & Marshall College and Gettysburg College – to 74 or more yards below their season average.  The only Centennial Conference team to reach its normal offensive output against the Moravian defense was Johns Hopkins University, which only had 48 more yards that its average against the Greyhounds.

Payne had 32 tackles this season while starting all ten games at nose tackle.  Payne added four and a half tackles for loss, two sacks, and four pass break-ups at the line of scrimmage.  He has made 45 career tackles with six and a half tackles for loss, two sacks and six pass break-ups in 20 career games during his two seasons at Moravian.

Rempe, pictured at left, gained 791 yards and had one touchdown in 213 carries to lead the Moravian rushing attack this fall.  Rempe, who was recruited as a quarterback and started five games at the position as a freshman, finished his career 11th in school history with 1,570 yards on 425 carries, sixth in school history.  Rempe had 1,518 yards on 391 carries over the last two seasons, and he tied a school record with 51 carries in a triple-overtime win at Juniata College in 2008.

Petros, pictured at right, had 40 tackles this fall in eight games including 25 solo tackles and team highs of 13 tackles for loss and five sacks to go along with three pass break-ups.  In 18 career games with the Greyhounds, Petros has 77 tackles with 25.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, three pass break-ups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Petros was also named to the 2009 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll this month.

Burley, a three-year starter at cornerback for the Greyhounds, made 61 tackles this fall to go along with an interceptions, five total passes defended and a fumble recovery that sealed Moravian’s win over McDaniel College.  Burley, pictured at bottom left, has played in all 31 games in his career, and he has contributed 154 tackles with 90 solo stops, two tackles for loss, six interceptions with 68 return yards, 17 pass break-ups for a total of 23 passes defended, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.
