FIVE MORAVIAN FOOTBALL PLAYERS RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- The Moravian College football team has five players ranked in the tenth NCAA Division III statistical rankings of 2009 through games of November 15th, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in one team category.

Freshman defensive back/kick returner Travis King (Wilmington, DE/Concord HS) is 60th in the nation in punt returns with an average of 8.88 yards per return, and King, pictured at right, is 76th in kickoff returns at 23.65 yards per return.  King had 16 punt returns for 142 yards and a school record 26 kickoff returns for 615 yards this fall.  His longest returns, a 29-yard punt return and a 56-yard kickoff return both came against Dickinson College on October 3rd.

Freshman running back/kick returner Langston Ross (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) is 94th in the country in kickoff returns, averaging 22.75 yards per return.  Ross, pictured at left, returned 16 kickoffs for 364 yards this season with a long return of 52 yards versus McDaniel College on September 12th.

Senior running back Ryan Rempe (Dickson City, PA/Mid-Valley HS) is 67th in the nation in rushing yardage at 87.89 yards per game.  Rempe, pictured at right, had 791 yards and a touchdown on 213 carries in eight games.  Rempe was in for just one play against McDaniel College on September 12th before being injured, and he missed the September 19th game versus Lebanon Valley College.

Sophomore kicker Ian Heck (Easton, PA/Easton HS) is tied for 90th in the country in field goals per game with an average of 0.60 per contest.  Heck, pictured at left, was six-for-seven in his first season as Moravian’s starting kicker, and he has a long field goal of 30 yards versus Lebanon Valley College.

Junior defensive lineman Allen Petros (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) is tied for 29th in the country in tackles for loss with an average of 1.63 tackle for loss per game, and he is tied for 100th in sacks per game at 0.62.  Petros, pictured at bottom right, registered 13 tackles for loss, ten solo stops and six assists, in eight games for Moravian.  Petros, who missed two games with an injury, had a total of 40 tackles including five sacks, all solo stops, this season.

Moravian is 14th in the nation in kickoff returns with an average of 23.27 yards per return on 44 kickoff returns this season, and the Greyhounds are first in the Centennial Conference in kickoff returns.

The Greyhounds have completed their 2009 season with a 2-8 record.
