FOUR GREYHOUNDS, MORAVIAN TEAM RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III WOMEN’S BASKETBALL STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Four players on the Moravian College women’s basketball team are ranked in the tenth NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2009-10 season including games through February 28th  and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 of 424 teams in eight categories.

Senior forward Kirsty Stearns (East Norwich, NY/Oyster Bay HS) is 19th in the nation in free throw percentage at 86.4 percent, having made 95 of 110 free throw attempts this season.  Stearns, pictured at right, is also tied for 54th in blocked shots at 2.0 per game with 54 blocked shots in 27 games.

Sophomore forward Alexandra Blair (Hellertown, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), pictured at left, is tied for 22nd in the nation in blocked shots at 2.6 per game with a school record 69 blocked shots in 27 games. 

Senior guard Jessica Foran (Annandale, NJ/Rutgers Prep HS), pictured at right, is also ranked in free throw percentage at 27th at 85.0 percent, making 96 of 113 free throw attempts.

Senior guard Kate Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor HS) is 93rd in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.30.  Harrison has dished out 83 assists and made just 64 turnovers through 27 games this winter. 

Foran, Harrison, pictured at bottom left, and Stearns have all surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for their careers this season.

Moravian, which led the nation in free throw percentage last season, is currently first in the country from the foul line at 77.3 percent (512-for-662), and the squad is the only team in the nation that has made more than 500 free throws this season.  The Greyhounds are second in blocked shots per game at 6.9, sixth in scoring offense at 77.9 points per game, tied for eighth in winning percentage at 92.6 percent, 16th in scoring margin at +17.3 points per game, 18th in turnover margin at 5.85, 26th in field goal percentage at 43.4 percent (751-of-1,730), and 45th in field goal percentage defense at 34.8 percent (601-of-1,728).

The Greyhounds, who are now 25-2 overall and finished a perfect 14-0 in Landmark Conference regular season action, will return to the court on Friday, March 5th in an NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament game versus Utica College tipping off at 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall. 

Moravian is currently ranked eighth in the nation in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, and the Greyhounds are tenth in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches.
