MORAVIAN TO SEND 15 STUDENT-ATHLETES TO COMPETE AT
2010 ECAC DIVISION III INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

NORTHAMPTON, MA --- Moravian College has qualified 15 student-athletes, eight females and seven males, to compete at the 2010 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts on Friday, March 5th and Saturday, March 6th.

The Moravian women were the ECAC runner-up last year after winning the title in 2008 while the men placed fifth at the ECAC meet a year ago after a runner-up finished in 2008.  Both teams are coming off of Landmark Conference Championships last weekend, the third straight for the women and second for the men in the three years of the conference.

On the women’s side, senior Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) will be competing in three individual events and a relay for the Greyhounds.  Posimo, pictured at left, is qualified in the 55-meter high hurdles in 8.62 seconds, the triple jump at a distance of 11.06 meters (36 feet, 3 ½ inches) and the long jump with a leap of 5.25 meters (17 feet, 2 ¾ inches).  Posimo will run the 4x200-meter relay with seniors Rachel Beck (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South HS), Symonne Scott (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS) and Rachel Riggs (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg HS) after the quartet qualified in 1:46.17.

Riggs will participate in 200-meter dash with a time of 26.72 seconds, the long jump with a qualifying leap of 5.25 meters (17 feet, 2 ¾ inches) and the triple jump with a qualifying distance of 10.97 meters (36 feet).  Beck, who was the 2010 Landmark Conference Track Athlete of the Year, is scheduled to run in the 55-meter dash after qualifying in 7.46 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a qualifying time of 26.54 seconds while Scott will compete in the 55-meter dash in a qualifying time of 7.50 seconds, in the 200-meter dash after a qualifying time of 26.50 seconds and in the long jump with a qualifying leap of 5.51 meters (18 feet, one inch).

Sophomore Kristina Ruggiero (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove HS) will run in the 1,000-meter run after a qualifying time of 3:08.49.

In other field events, junior Rebekah Finn (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) will compete in the pole vault after clearing a qualifying height of 3.60 meters (11 feet, 9 ¾ inches) and sophomore Lauren Molchan (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) will also be in the pole vault after clearing 3.20 meters (ten feet, six inches).  Freshman Micah Leonard (York, PA/William Penn HS) will participate in the triple jump with a qualifying distance 11.31 meters (37 feet, 1 ¼ inches) and the long jump after a qualifying leap of 5.41 meters (17 feet, nine inches). 

On the men’s side, sophomore Eric Woodruff (Brodheadsville, PA/St. Pius X HS) will be participating in two individual events and a relay for the Greyhounds.  Woodruff, pictured at right, is scheduled to compete in the 55-meter dash with a qualifying time of 6.54 seconds and the 200-meter dash with the top qualifying time of 22.17 seconds.

Woodruff will also run in the 4x200-meter relay along sophomores Nicco Dalpiaz (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy HS) and Kyle D’Angelo (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern HS) and freshman Justin Taylor (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) after a qualifying time of 1:32.41.

Senior Michael Blenk (Inwood, NY/Lawrence HS) will compete in the indoor pentathlon, which features the 55-meter hurdles, the long jump, the shot put, the high jump and the 1,000-meter run.  Freshman Jonathan Heberling (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh HS) is scheduled to compete in the long jump after a qualifying leap of 6.74 meters (22 feet, 1 ½ inches).

Sophomore Timothy Layng (Canton, PA/Canton HS) and Dalpiaz will both compete in the pole vault after qualifying at heights of 4.76 meters (15 feet, 7 ¾ inches for Layng and 4.55 meters (14 feet, 11 inches) for Dalpiaz.
