MORAVIAN’S KATE HARRISON & JESSICA POSIMO SELECTED AS LANDMARK CONFERENCE SENIOR SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

MADISON, NJ --- Moravian College seniors Kate Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cole Spring Harbor HS) and Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy HS) have been selected as Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athletes for their respective winter sports of women’s basketball and women’s indoor track & field.

A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the sports sponsored by the conference. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities. It is the most exclusive award given out by the conference with just 20 honorees for each academic year.  Moravian has had six student-athletes honored in the three years that the Landmark Conference has existed.

The other 2010 Landmark winter Senior Scholar Athletes are: Men’s Basketball: Jeff Berkey, Juniata College; Men’s Swimming & Diving: Scott Heilman, United States Merchant Marine Academy; Women’s Swimming & Diving: Lauren Wieland, The University of Scranton; Men’s Indoor Track & Field: Steve Drosdick, Susquehanna University.

Harrison, pictured at left, closed her career by helping Moravian claim its first Landmark women’s basketball championship and earn the team’s second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. She is a three-time All-Conference choice, and earned first-team honors as a junior and senior. She was also chosen as an All-Region and ECAC All-Star in her final year, when she averaged nearly 11 points per game, while grabbing 160 rebounds, passing out 85 assists and collecting 43 steals. In the classroom, Harrison will graduate with a degree in elementary education and psychology, and has produced a strong cumulative GPA over four years. She is a three-time Academic Honor Roll choice and earned Winter All-Academic honors as a senior.

Posimo has been one of the top performers in track & field since Landmark competition began. She has earned first-team All-Conference honors at all three Landmark Indoor Track & Field Championships, and has helped Moravian win the team title at all three. She was the Field Athlete of the Year choice at the 2009 Championship, and has won seven individual events and been a part of three winning relays at Landmark Indoor Championships. She also qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in her junior year. Posimo has maintained an outstanding GPA as a biochemistry major, and is a three-time Landmark All-Academic Team honoree. She also is an affiliate for the American Chemistry Society.
