FOUR GREYHOUNDS, TEAM RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III BASEBALL STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Senior pitchers Chris Morrison (Middlesex, NJ/Immaculata HS) and Joe Melchionna (Marlboro, NJ/St. John Vianney), and sophomore pitchers Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) and Kyle Longernecker (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) of theMoravian College baseball team, and the Greyhound squad, are ranked in the eighth NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2010 season including games through April 25th.

Morrison, pictured at right, currently has a 2.44 ERA which is good enough for being 48th in the nation in eight games on the mound.

Melchionna, left, is 44th in the nation in walks allowed per nine innings by only giving up 1.61 in 50 1/3 innings on the hill.

Close, pictured right, is ranked 70th in the nation in walks allowed per nine innings by only giving up 1.77 in 40 2/3 innings for the Greyhounds.

Longernecker, pictured at bottom left, is tied for 89th in saves with a total of three saves on the year in 21 innings on the mound.

The Greyhounds are ranked 47th in the nation in hits allowed per nine innings with an average of 9.66 hits while they are also 49th in walks allowed per nine innings which is at 3.3 and 49th in strikeouts per nine innings with 7.5.  They are tied for 37th in the nation in stolen bases per game with an average of 2.25 steals a contest and are also tied for 38th in stolen bases with 81 on the year. 

The Greyhounds, who are 23-13 on the season, are scheduled to return to action on Friday, May 7th when they are set to host the 2010 Landmark Conference Tournament and open up against Juniata College starting at 9:00 a.m. at Gillespie Field.
