FOUR GREYHOUNDS, TEAM RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III BASEBALL STATISTICS
INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Four pitchers on the Moravian College baseball team, and the Greyhound squad, are ranked in the ninth NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2010 season including games through May 9th.
Senior pitcher Chris Morrison (Middlesex, NJ/Immaculata HS), this week's Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week, currently has a 2.08 ERA, which is ranked 26th in the nation. Morrison, pictured at right, is also tied for 56th with victories with a 7-1 mark this spring, and he is tied for 44th in hits allowed per nine innings at 7.41. Senior pitcher Joe Melchionna(Marlboro, NJ/St. John Vianney HS), pictured at left, is 44th in the nation in walks allowed per nine innings by only giving up 1.61 in 50 1/3 innings on the hill. Sophomore pitcher Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) is ranked 85th in the nation in walks allowed per nine innings by only giving up 1.85 in 48 2/3 innings for the Greyhounds. Close, pictured at bottom right, is also 73rd in the country in strikeouts per nine innings with an average of 9.61 after 52 strikeouts this year.
Freshman pitcher Kyle Longernecker (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), pictured at bottom left, is tied for 54th in saves with a total of four saves on the year in 22 innings on the mound. The Greyhounds are ranked 28th in the nation in hits allowed per nine innings with an average of 9.29 hits while they are also 34th in walks allowed per nine innings at 3.14 and 38th in ERA at 4.33. They 40th in the nation in stolen bases per game with an average of 2.21 steals a contest, and Moravian is also tied for 39th in stolen bases with 86 on the year.
The Greyhounds, who are 26-13 on the season a school record for wins, will return to action on Wednesday, May 19th in the school’s first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. The site, opponent and time of the game will be announced on May 17th.
