67 MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED TO LANDMARK CONFERENCE SPRING ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL

MADISON, N.J. --- The Landmark Conference has recognized 440 student-athletes including 67 from Moravian College by selecting them for the 2010 Spring Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll. The honorees were selected from all eight Landmark Conference institutions.

The Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognizes all spring student athletes of sophomore standing or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The student-athletes must complete the spring season in good standing with their team. All eight Landmark Conference institutions placed at least 18athletes on the Academic Honor Roll and all eight spring Landmark sports were represented on the team.

The Landmark Spring All-Academic Team, which features two male and two female student-athletes from each Landmark institution will be released later this spring.  Also still to be released are senior scholar athletes from the spring season in which one standout senior is selected from each sport.

The Landmark Conference concluded its third year of competition with seven student-athletes earning All-America status at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships. The Landmark sent 13 teams to NCAA Tournament play in the 2009-10 academic year, and also qualified individual competitors for the NCAA Championships in men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s swimming & diving and men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track & field.

Moravian had student-athletes selected from all eight of its spring teams that compete in the conference with the women’s track and field team leading the way with 16 honorees.  The baseball program had 13 student-athletes earn Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll accolades while the men’s track & field squad had 11 student-athletes honored. The men’s lacrosse had eight players make the honor roll while the women’s lacrosse program had six honorees. The softball and women’s tennis teams each had five student-athletes honored while the men’s tennis squad had three student-athletes make the honor roll as well.

Leading the honorees for the women’s track and field team were seniors Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS), Rachel Riggs (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg HS) and Rachel Beck (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South HS), who all led the Greyhounds to their third straight Landmark Conference and earned All-American honors at the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships with Heim winning the pole vault and Riggs and Beck running on the 4x100-meter relay.

Also making the Honor Roll were seniors Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy), Katelyn Chando (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) and Aliina Ross (Paoli, PA/Conestoga HS), juniors Mary King (Paramus, NJ/Paramus HS), Rebekah Finn (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS), Alyssa Wert (Orefield, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) and Kaleen Holden (Scranton, PA/Bishop Hannan HS) and sophomores Anne Joseph (Livingston, NJ/Livingston HS), Lauren Molchan (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS), Brittany Moses (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS), Cadee Rockwell (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS), Kristina Ruggiero (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove HS) and Lisa Williamson (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS).

Seniors Joseph Melchionna (Marlboro, NJ/St. John Vianney HS), Philip Spence (Lafayette, NJ/Newton HS) and Richard Schultz (Drexel Hill, PA/The Haverford School) were all named to the 2010 Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll as the baseball team ended the 2010 season with a 25-14 record, a school record for wins, and the Greyhounds won their first Landmark Conference Championship and played in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

Joining the senior baseball players on the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll were juniors Jonathan Baltz (Easton, PA/Easton HS), Jason Huber (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS), Matthew Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS), Jacob Millen (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS), Jake Schweitzer (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) and Mike Zubia (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) as well as sophomores Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS), Austin Rock (Arlington, VA/Flour Bluff HS), Gregg Steinman (Miami, FL/Palmer Trinity School) and David Zubia (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS).

Sophomore Gary Zack (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood HS) leads the honorees for the Men’s Track and Field team after competing in the 2010 NCAA Division III Championships in the javelin throw and helping Moravian to its third straight Landmark Conference title.  Sophomore Timothy Layng (Canton, PA/Canton HS) won a Landmark Conference title in the pole vault while sophomore Nicco Dalpiaz (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy HS) was the runner up in the pole vault.

Also making the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll were seniors Christian Seebode (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg HS) and Matthew Wisotsky (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North HS),junior Jacob Tazik (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing HS) and sophomores Jordan Barton (Williamsport, PA/Montoursville HS), Kyle D’Angelo (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern HS), Mike Facchiano (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS), Matthew Lutcza (Dingman’s Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley HS) and Zach Rivenbank (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh HS).

Making the academic honor roll from the men’s lacrosse team were juniors Christopher Mohapp (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South HS), Michael Santos (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan HS) and Daniel Cress (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson HS) and sophomores Michael Birnbaum (Sparta, NJ/Sparta HS), Jacob Harris (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley HS), Kevin Jordan (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central HS), Nelson Knusden (Charlestown, RI/The Prout School) and Joseph Perrino (Wall, NJ/Wall HS).  The men’s lacrosse team had a 2-14 record

Leading the honorees for the women’s lacrosse team were seniors Brittany Deiling (Chews Landing, NJ/Triton Regional HS) and Paige Warbrick ( HS) along with junior Taylor Sperduto (Morristown, NJ/Morristown-Beard HS) and sophomores Shannon Algeo (Spring-Ford, PA/Spring-Ford HS), Lauren Gober (Wescosville, PA/Emmaus HS) and Allison Hess (Harleysville, PA/Souderton HS).  The women’s lacrosse team closed out the year with a 5-11 mark.

The softball team honorees were led by sophomore Jenna Carmon (Flemington, NJ/North Hunterdon HS), who was named to the 2010 Landmark Conference Softball Pitcher of the Year. The softball team completed the year with a 35-14 overall record, a third consecutive Landmark Conference Championship and a berth in the 2010 NCAA Division III Tournament, the program’s 12th appearance in the last 13 years as the Greyhounds made the World Series for the third time in seven years.

Also making the honor roll from the softball team were juniors Amanda Paulus (Easton, PA/Easton HS), who was on the Landmark All-Conference First Team, Maura Agnew (Doylestown, PA/Lansdale Catholic HS) and Elizabeth Python (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman HS) and sophomore Olivia Evanko (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS).

Leading the honorees for the women’s tennis team were sophomore Jami Fein (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon HS), who also named to the 2010 Landmark Conference Player of the Year.  Juniors Kerry McKinley (Sparta, NU/Pope John XXIII HS) and Elizabeth Endy (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) and sophomores Brianna Kavanaugh (Pittsgrove, NJ/Arthur P. Schalick HS) and Anna Meola (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland HS) were also named to the academic honor roll. The women’s tennis team completed its season with a 12-6 record, which included playing in the conference championship match for the 16th consecutive season.

Senior Ian Box (Charlestown, MA/The Rivers School HS) and sophomores Drew Shreter (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) and Nick Yelito (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua HS) were named to the Spring Academic Honor Roll from the men’s tennis team. Box was also named to the 2010 Landmark All-Conference First Team in singles and Second Team in doubles. The men’s tennis team posted a 7-8 record, and competed in the Landmark Conference Tournament for the third straight year.
