FOUR MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED TO LANDMARK CONFERENCE SPRING ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

MADISON, NJ --- Seniors Ian Box (Charlestown, MA/The Rivers School HS) and Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS), junior Jonathan Baltz (Easton, PA/Easton HS) and sophomore Jami Fein (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon HS) from Moravian College have been named to the 2010 Landmark Conference Spring All-Academic Team announced by the conference office.

The Landmark Conference has selected 32 student-athletes for the 2010 Spring Landmark All-Academic Team. Two male and two female athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions were selected for the team which honors athletes who have excelled athletically and academically. Nominees could compete in any of the winter sports and must be a sophomore or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

The Spring Academic Team features 12 seniors, 10 juniors and ten sophomores. Two student-athletes including Box are earning Spring All-Academic honors for the third time in their careers, while seven others are being honored for a second time. In addition all eight spring sports sponsored by the Landmark Conference are represented with at least one student-athlete. The LandmarkConference selects an All-Academic Team for each of the three athletics seasons during the year.

Box, who was the 2008 Landmark Conference Player of the Year while earning spots on the Landmark All-Conference First Team in singles and the All-Conference Second Team in doubles, was 5-13 on the year with a 4-10 slate at first singles.  Box who made the All-Conference First Team in singles and doubles in 2009 and the First Team in singles and Second Team in doubles this past season, completed his career with a 43-27 singles mark, the fourth most victories in school history, and Box was 41-32 in doubles action, the school record for career doubles wins.  A biology student, he earns All-Academic Team laurels for the third time and is a three-time Academic Honor Roll honoree.

Heim closed a stellar career on the women’s track & field team with a pair of national championships in the pole vault.  Heim captured the outdoor title at an NCAA meet record height of 4.13 meters (13 feet, 6 ½ inches) on her second attempt at the height.  Heim, who won the NCAA DIII Indoor title back in March with an NCAA meet record of 4.16 meters (13 feet, 7 ¾ inches), earned All-America honors six times in eight trips to the NCAA meets during her career.  Heim owns the all-time NCAA DIII best height of 4.17 meters (13 feet, 8 ¼ inches) set on May 13th at the 2010 ECAC Championships in Springfield, Massachusetts.  She earned her degree in art education and twice earned Landmark Academic Honor Roll distinction.

Baltz was named to the 2010 Landmark All-Conference First Team at third base after helping Moravian win its first Landmark Conference title and make the program’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament.  Baltz had a .319 average this year to go along with 51 hits, 35 runs, nine doubles and 27 RBIs.  He also has a .375 slugging percentage, 14 walks, four sacrifice bunts and three stolen bases.  Baltz has 29 putouts and 81 assists while starting all 41 games at third base, the only Moravian player to play in every contest this season.  Baltz is majoring in Psychology and has been on the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll twice.

Fein, who was the 2010 Landmark Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year as well as an All-Conference First Team singles player and Second Team doubles player, had a 19-4 singles record in her second season, tying for second in the school record book for singles wins in a season, and she had a 12-3 mark at first singles.  Fein, who was the 2009 Landmark Conference Player and Rookie of the Year as well as All-Conference First Team in singles and doubles, has a 37-6 career singles record in two seasons including a 26-5 mark at first singles.  Fein is majoring in accounting at Moravian and also earned a spot on the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll for the first time this spring.
