MORAVIAN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM JUMPS TO 12TH IN LATEST D3HOOPS.COM TOP 25 POLL

MINNEAPOLIS, MN --- The Moravian College women’s basketball team, which now has a 5-2 overall record, jumped to 12th in the nation in the second D3hoop.com Top 25 Poll of the season announced Tuesday.  The complete poll can be viewed at http://www.d3hoops.com/top25/.

The Greyhounds, under the direction of 23-year head coach Mary Beth Spirk, were ranked 23rd in last week’s first regular season poll after being 15th in the preseason poll.  Moravian received 313 points in the poll this week after 107 points last week.

Illinois Wesleyan University is ranked first in the nation with 611 points and 16 first-place votes while Amherst College is ranked second with 590 total points and three first-place votes.  Hope (MI) College is third with 588 points and the remaining six first-place votes.

Moravian defeated now 13th ranked The University of Scranton, 73-63, on Saturday, December 5th when Scranton was fourth in the nation, and the Greyhounds have a 51-48 win over DeSales University, which received votes this week.  Moravian dropped an 84-71 decision to 14th ranked Muhlenberg College Monday night after voting for the poll was completed but before the rankings were released.

Moravian will return to action on Saturday, December 12th when the Greyhounds host Albright College at 2:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.  The Greyhounds will then have 17 days off before playing at Neumann University on December 30th.

The D3hoops.com Top 25 poll is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.  The next poll will be on Tuesday, December 15th.
