MORAVIAN’S STELTZ AND CULLEN NAMED LEHIGH VALLEY SMALL COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS OF THE MONTH

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior Alyson Steltz (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS) and junior Chris Cullen (East Islip, NY/East Islip HS) from the Moravian College basketball teams have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Scholar-Athlete Teams of the Month for January by the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization at its second luncheon of the 2009-10 season at Starters Restaurant in Bethlehem.

The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the seven small college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III schools Cedar Crest College, Delaware Valley College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College.

Steltz, a forward, has helped the Moravian women open the year with an 11-2 overall record and a 3-0 mark in Landmark Conference action.  Steltz, pictured at right, has played in 11 games off of the Greyhounds’ bench, and has 19 rebounds including a career high five against Cedar Crest on January 2nd and ten points.  She also has 12 steals with a career high of four versus Albright College on December 12th and ten assists, and Steltz is majoring in elementary education and psychology at Moravian.

Joining Steltz on the January Scholar-Athlete Team of the Month were Elizabeth Sunderhaus from Cedar Crest, Stephanie Kraemer of Delaware Valley, Kelly Magrann from DeSales, Alexa Detzi of East Stroudsburg, Rachel Wisemiller from Kutztown and Alexis Bates of Muhlenberg.

Cullen, a center, has helped the Greyhounds to a 4-9 record in the first half of the season and a 1-2 mark in Landmark Conference action.  Cullen, pictured at left, is contributing 11.2 points per game while playing an average of 26.9 minutes per game in his second year as a starter.  Cullen, who is majoring in biology with a focus on pre-physical therapy at Moravian, also has a team leading average of 6.7 rebounds per game to go with 11 assists, 13 steals and ten blocked shots.  Cullen leads Moravian in three-point shooting at 31.1 percent, making 14 of 45 attempts, and he has two double-doubles in the last three games.

Joining Cullen on the January Scholar-Athlete Team of the Month were Brian Hilinski of Delaware Valley, Bob Zanneo from DeSales, Andy Heimbach of East Stroudsburg, Steve Coffey from Kutztown and Spencer Liddic of Muhlenberg.

The final Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Luncheon of 2009-10 is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16th at Starters Restaurant in Bethlehem.
