TWO GREYHOUNDS, MORAVIAN TEAM RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III WOMEN’S BASKETBALL STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Two players on the Moravian College women’s basketball team are ranked in the fourth NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2009-10 season including games through January 17th, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 of 424 teams in nine categories.

Senior forward Kirsty Stearns (East Norwich, NY/Oyster Bay HS), pictured at right, is tied for 49th in the nation in free throw percentage at 84.3 percent, having made 59 of 70 free throw attempts this season.

Sophomore forward Alexandra Blair (Hellertown, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), pictured at left, is tied for 45th in the nation in blocked shots at 2.0 with 30 blocked shots in 15 games.

Moravian, which led the nation in free throw percentage last season, is currently fourth from the foul line at 77.4 percent (278-for-359).  The Greyhounds are 11th in scoring offense at 76.4 pointers per game, 13th in blocked shots per game at 5.7, tied for 19th in winning percentage at 86.7 percent, 28th in scoring margin at +14.4 points per game, tied for 30th in turnover margin at 6.0, 32nd in field goal percentage defense at 33.6 percent (326-of-970), tied for 44th in turnovers per game at 17.2 and 46th in field goal percentage at 42.5 percent (413-of-971).

The Greyhounds, who are 13-2 overall and 5-0 in Landmark Conference action, will return to the court on Friday, January 22nd in a Landmark Conference game versus Goucher College tipping off at 5:30 p.m. in Johnston Hall as Moravian starts a stretch of five straight home games and eight of the final ten regular season contests at home. 

Moravian is currently ranked 14th in the nation in the D3hoops.com Top 25 polls, and the Greyhounds are ranked 15th in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches.
