THREE GREYHOUNDS, MORAVIAN TEAM RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III WOMEN’S BASKETBALL STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Three players on the Moravian College women’s basketball team are ranked in the fifth NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2009-10 season including games through January 24th, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 of 424 teams in eight categories.

Senior forward Kirsty Stearns (East Norwich, NY/Oyster Bay HS), pictured at right, is 50th in the nation in free throw percentage at 84.3 percent, having made 70 of 83 free throw attempts this season.

Sophomore forward Alexandra Blair (Hellertown, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), pictured at left, is tied for 39th in the nation in blocked shots at 2.2 with 37 blocked shots in 17 games.

Senior guard Kate Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor HS) is 93rd in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.33.  Harrison, pictured at bottom right, has dished out 53 assists and made just 40 turnovers through 17 games this winter. Both Harrison and Stearns surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for their careers last weekend in back-to-back games.

Moravian, which led the nation in free throw percentage last season, is currently eighth from the foul line at 76.8 percent (317-for-415).  The Greyhounds are also tied for eighth in scoring offense at 77.3 pointers per game, tied for 11th in blocked shots per game at 5.9, tied for 15th in winning percentage at 88.2 percent, 25th in scoring margin at +15.4 points per game, 20th in turnover margin at 6.53, tied 29th in field goal percentage defense at 33.6 percent (365-of-1,187) and 40th in field goal percentage at 42.4 percent (471-of-1,111).

The Greyhounds, who are now 16-2 overall and 7-0 in Landmark Conference action, will return to the court on Friday, January 29th in a Landmark Conference game versus Drew University tipping off at 5:30 p.m. in Johnston Hall as Moravian continues a stretch that has five of the final seven regular season contests at home. 

Moravian is currently ranked 13th in the nation in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, and the Greyhounds are also ranked 13th in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches.
