FOUR GREYHOUNDS, MORAVIAN TEAM RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III WOMEN’S BASKETBALL STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Four players on the Moravian College women’s basketball team are ranked in the seventh NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2009-10 season including games through February 7th, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 of 424 teams in 11 categories.

Sophomore forward Alexandra Blair (Hellertown, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), pictured at right, is 32nd in the nation in blocked shots at 2.4 with 47 blocked shots in 20 games.  Blair, last week’s Landmark Conference Player of the Week, had ten blocked shots in Moravian’s last three contests.

Senior forward Kirsty Stearns (East Norwich, NY/Oyster Bay HS), pictured at left, is tied for 34th in the nation in free throw percentage at 85.4 percent, having made 82 of 96 free throw attempts this season.

Senior guard Jessica Foran (Annandale, NJ/Rutgers Prep HS), pictured at right, is also ranked in free throw percentage at 80th at 81.9 percent, making 59 of 72 free throw attempts.

Senior guard Kate Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor HS) is 54th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.53.  Harrison has dished out 61 assists and made just 40 turnovers through 20 games this winter, and she had eight assists with no turnovers in Moravian’s latest action. 

Foran, Harrison, pictured at left, and Stearns have all surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for their careers during Moravian’s last five games.

Moravian, which led the nation in free throw percentage last season, is currently first in the country from the foul line at 77.6 percent (384-for-495).  The Greyhounds are second in scoring offense at 80.1 points per game, tied for fifth in blocked shots per game at 6.3, 11th in turnover margin at 6.9, 12th in scoring margin at +17.9 points per game, tied for 14th in winning percentage at 90.0 percent, 27th in assist-to-turnover ratio at 0.91, 29th in field goal percentage at 43.4 percent (573-of-1,320), 41st in field goal percentage defense at 34.4 percent (441-of-1,282), 47th in turnovers per game at 17.1 and 48th in assists per game at 15.5.

The Greyhounds, who are now 18-2 overall and 9-0 in Landmark Conference action, will return to the court on Friday, February 12th in a Landmark Conference game versus Juniata College tipping off at 5:30 p.m. in Johnston Hall 

Moravian is currently ranked tenth in the nation in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, and the Greyhounds are tied for 11th in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches.
