MORAVIAN WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM PICKED FIFTH IN LANDMARK CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women’s cross country team has been selected fifth in the 2010 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Susquehanna University was selected first in the poll with 96 points, 12 points ahead of defending champion The University of Scranton with 84 points. Juniata College was third with 68 points while The Catholic University of America was in fourth place with 61 points.  The Greyhounds earned 58 points for the fifth spot, and rounding out the poll were Goucher College in sixth place with 37 points, Drew University with 23 points and The United States Merchant Marine Academy in eighth place with 21 points.

Moravian looks to challenge for the Landmark Conference Championship with the return a majority of its top runners including eight letterwinners on the women’s squad with junior All-Conference runners Cadee Rockwell (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) and Kristina Ruggiero (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove HS) back.  Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Walt Wandall and assistant distance coach David Cohen, who joined the Moravian staff this fall, look to build their young teams to be a top competitor in the Landmark Conference.  The team began its preseason on August 22nd.

The Greyhounds begin their 2010 season on Friday, September 3rd at the Lehigh Valley Championship hosted by Lehigh University on the Goodman Campus at 5:00 p.m.  The 2010 Landmark Conference championship meet will be held on Saturday, October 30th hosted by Goucher in Towson, Maryland.
