MORAVIAN’S BORTZ NAMED CENTENNIAL CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK;
SYLVAINUS NAMED TO WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

LANCASTER, PA --- Senior linebacker Philip Bortz (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS) of the Moravian College football team has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week while senior wide receiver Shawn Sylvainus (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) was named to the Weekly Honor Roll for their performances in Moravian’s 42-0 win at Juniata College on Saturday.

Bortz, pictured at right, scored his first career touchdown when he returned an interception 40 yards for a score to give Moravian a 28-0 lead in the game. Bortz also tied for the team high with six tackles, four of them solo stops, and he had one tackle for loss in the contest.  His interception return for a score was Moravian’s second of the game and fourth of the season.

Sylvainus, pictured at left, led the Moravian receivers with nine catches for 165 yards, the fourth highest single game total in school history.  Sylvainus is now fifth in school history with 112 receptions, and his is third in yardage at 1,748.  Sylvainus likes to play at Knox Stadium in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, with 20 catches for 307 yards and a touchdown in two games at Juniata.  Sylvainus is also Moravian's long snapper on punts and holder on field goal and extra-point attempts.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, October 30th in a Centennial Conference game versus nationally-ranked Ursinus College kicking off at 1:00 p.m. in Bethlehem.
