FIVE MORAVIAN FOOTBALL PLAYERS RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Five members of the Moravian College football team are ranked in the ninth NCAA Division III statistical rankings of 2010 through games of October 30th, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in three team categories.

Senior wide receiver Shawn Sylvainus (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) is 71st in the nation in receiving yards per game with an average of 82.00.  Sylvainus, pictured at right, has caught 43 passes for 738 yards with two touchdowns in nine games, and he has moved into fourth in school history with 117 receptions and third at 1,835 receiving yards.

Senior wide receiver Alex Hersch (Macungie, PA/Emmaus HS) is 63rd in the country in punt returns, averaging 8.32 yards per return.  Hersch, pictured at left, has returned 22 punts for 183 yards this season with a long return of 25 yards versus Franklin & Marshall College on October 16th.

Junior kicker Ian Heck (Easton, PA/Easton HS) is tied for 79th in the country in field goals per game at 0.67.  Heck, pictured at right, is six-for-nine on field goal attempts this season with a career long of 41 yards versus Johns Hopkins University on September 25th.  All three of Heck’s misses this season are from longer than 43 yards.

Senior defensive back Daniel Burley (Easton, PA/Easton HS) is tied for 75th in the nation in interceptions at 0.44 per game.  Burley, pictured at left, has intercepted four passes in nine games with a nine-yard return for a touchdown at Juniata College on October 23rd.

Senior defensive lineman Allen Petros (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) is 83rd in the country in tackles for loss at 1.33 per game.  Petros has 12 tackles for loss this fall including five and a half sacks.  Petros, pictured at right, has moved into second in school history with 37 and a half career tackles for loss.

Moravian is 34th in the nation in total defense, allowing 271.89 yards per game, and the squad is 35th in rushing defense at 103.00 yards per game and 42nd in pass efficiency defense with a 101.37 rating.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, November 13th in a Centennial Conference game versus rival Muhlenberg College in the final game of the 2010 season.  Kickoff is slated for 1:05 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field in Bethlehem.
