EIGHT MORAVIAN FOOTBALL PLAYERS NAMED TO CENTENNIAL CONFERENCE FALL ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL

LANCASTER, PA --- Seniors wide receiver Alex Hersch (Macungie, PA/Emmaus HS), punter Eric Dziengelski (Coatesville, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy HS) and defensive linemen Michael McClarin (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) and Allen Petros (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS), junior kicker Ian Heck (Easton, PA/Easton HS) and sophomores linebacker Jake Hildebrand (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS), defensive back Travis King (Wilmington, DE/Concord HS) and offensive lineman Billy Viscuso (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS) have been named to the 2010 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.

The Centennial Conference recognized 342 student-athletes for performance in the classroom and field of play including 47 football players.  To be nominated for the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll, a student must meet the following criteria: be a starter or key reserve on the team, a sophomore or higher in class standing and have a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher.

Hersch, pictured at left, has played in all ten games this season for Moravian, having caught 29 passes for 462 yards and three touchdowns.  Hersch, who was on the 2008 and 2009 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, also has 23 punt returns for 194 yards this season.  Hersch, who is 37 yards shy of becoming the 19th player in school history with 1,000 career receiving yards, is majoring in accounting.

Dziengelski, pictured at right, is in his second year as Moravian’s punter.  He is averaging 34.7 yards per punt this season on 45 attempts with a long of 57 yards, two touchbacks, six fair caught, 15 inside the 20-yard line and two blocked punts.  Dziengelski is majoring in political science.

McClarin, pictured at left, has started every game for the Greyhounds for a second straight season at defensive end.  He has 32 tackles with one and a half tackles for loss, half a sack and three passes defended this fall.  McClarin, who transferred to Moravian in 2008 from the United States Naval Academy, is majoring in secondary education and mathematics.

Petros, pictured at right, has also started every game this season at the other defensive end position for Moravian, and he has moved into second in school history with 37 and a half tackles for loss.  Petros has 48 tackles this fall with team highs of 12 tackles for loss and five and a half sacks to go with two pass break-ups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery while being named to the All-Centennial Conference First Team in 2010.  Petros, who transferred to Moravian in 2008 from Bloomsburg University, is majoring in biology/pre-med.

McClarin and Petros are both finalists for ESPN Academic All-America honors that will be announced on November 22nd.

Hildebrand, pictured at left, has started all ten games at inside linebacker for Moravian this year.  He is the team’s leading tackler with 75 stops to go along with seven tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions with 32 return yards and a touchdown and a total of seven passes defended while being named to the All-Centennial Conference Second Team in 2010.  Hildebrand is majoring in mathematics and secondary education.

King, pictured at right, has seen action in six games, starting five of them, this fall for the Greyhounds, sitting out four games with an injury.  King has contributed 30 tackles with two for loss, two interceptions with 30 return yards and a touchdown, four passes defended and a forced fumble, and he has returned five kickoffs for 98 yards.  King is majoring in business management.

Viscuso, pictured at left, has started all ten games at left tackle for Moravian in 2010.  He has the Moravian offense average 285.3 yards and 18.0 points per game this season.  Over the last six weeks, Moravian is averaging 337 yards and 24.7 points per contest while going 5-1.  Viscuso, who transferred to Moravian this fall from Duquesne University, is majoring in accounting.

The Greyhounds, who have won four straight games and are 6-4 overall, are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, November 20th in the 2010 ECAC Division III Southeast Bowl Championship game at Wilkes University.  Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex in Edwardsville, Pennsylvania.
