MINNEAPOLIS, MN --- The Moravian College baseball team received votes in the first regular season 2011 D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division III Top 25 Poll released Tuesday.

Heidelberg (OH) University holds down the top spot in the poll with 607 points and 18 first-place votes while Kean (NJ) University is second with 577 points and three first-place votes.  The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point also earned three first-place votes and is third with 558 points while defending national champion Illinois Wesleyan University has the final first-place vote and is ranked 13th with 327 points.

The Greyhounds, who received one point in the preseason poll released on January 20th, earned four points in the first regular season poll.  Moravian is 24th of 28 teams that received votes outside of the top 25.  The Greyhounds own a 6-4 win over Hampden-Sydney College this season, which received two points in the poll.

Moravian, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Paul Engelhardt (80-76), returns 18 players and 12 starters from last year’s 26-15 squad that won its first Landmark Conference Championship and made the program’s first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament appearance.  Coach Engelhardt has added another 19 players to the roster this year.

The Greyhounds began their season with a 2-1 record at the 4th Annual Floyd B. Wilcox Memorial Tournament hosted by Hampden-Sydney on February 18th to 20th.  Moravian will return to the field on Sunday, March 6th in a non-conference game versus Mount St. Mary’s (NY) College as the squad opens a seven-game trip to the RussMatt Tournament in Winter Haven, Florida.
