MORAVIAN’S SCHAFFER NAMED DIVISION III NATIONAL FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR BY USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS, LA --- Junior pole vaulter Abigail Schaffer (Easton, PA/Easton HS) of the Moravian College indoor track & field team has been named the 2011 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III National Indoor Female Field Athlete of the Year announced Thursday.

Schaffer reset the NCAA Division III all-time and meet records with a winning clearance of 13-8¼ (4.17 meters) in the pole vault at the NCAA Division III National Championships on March 12th. For Schaffer, it was her first national crown and second-straight for Moravian in the event. Schaffer came into the meet tied with MIT’s Karin Fisher with the Division III season best of 13-6¼ (4.12m).

Schaffer also was the pole vault champ at the Landmark Conference Championships, and has vaulted over four meters in her last five meets.  Schaffer was the runner-up at the NCAA Championships in 2010 while competing as a member of the Widener University track & field Team.
