Empire 8 Men’s Golf Championship Concludes This Weekend at Moravian
St. John Fisher and Host Moravian Share Lead Entering Final Rounds

ROCHESTER, NY – St. John Fisher College and Moravian College share the lead with 617 totals at the 2010-11 Empire 8 Men’s Golf Championship, which concludes with the third and fourth rounds at the Woodstone Country Club in Danielsville, PA on Saturday and Sunday.

Moravian, serving as host for the spring portion of the championship, shot a second round-best 306 in the fall to move into a tie with the Cardinals. Seth Hartman of the Greyhounds is the individual leader in the tournament after shooting rounds of 71 and 77 for a 148 total over the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, N.Y. He holds a three-shot lead over teammate Luke Smith, who posted a second-round 73 for a 151.

Twelve players are within 10 shots of the individual lead and the difference between the first-place team and the fifth-place team is just 18 strokes.

St. John Fisher, which won five consecutive conference titles before being dethroned by Susquehanna University last year, has four players within eight shots of the individual lead, including Brady Yates (153) and Tyler McArdell (155), who has earned medalist honors in back-to-back tournaments.

Seven stokes separate the third- and fifth-place teams with the University of Scranton sitting third with a two-round total of 628 and was led in the fall portion of the tournament by Jamie Bresnahan, who is tied for second with a 153 total. Elmira College enters the final two rounds in fourth place (631), led by Nick Decker, who shot 155 over the first two rounds. Defending champion

Susquehanna stands sixth at 635 and was paced in the fall by Steve Welkie’s 154.
Nazareth College (645) trails Susquehanna by 10 strokes to sit in sixth place. Ben Hermann shot a second-round 75 for a 156 total.

Richie Szeliga (163) was the top finisher for Stevens Institute of Technology in the first two rounds. The Ducks are in seventh place with a 675 total. Mike Reilly (165) led the way for Utica College (696) in the fall.

The top five scorers who played all four rounds at the end of the tournament will earn first-team all-conference honors with the next five finishers being named to the second team.
