ROCHESTER, NY --- Moravian College senior Lucas Smith (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing HS), sophomore Thomas Fenyak (Centreville, VA/Westfield HS) and senior Seth Hartman (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown HS) have been honored by the Empire 8 Conference after competing in the squads second Empire 8 Golf Championship.

Smith earned All-Conference First Team honors; finishing fifth of the 34 golfers that played all four rounds of the championship, and Smith, pictured at left, was honored as Moravian’s Sportsman of the Year, awarded to one player from each participating school, for a second straight year.  Fenyak and Hartman were named to the All-Conference Second Team after finishing seventh and tied for ninth respectively.  To earn all-conference honors, a player must play all four rounds, two in the fall and two in the spring.  The top five finishers earn all-conference first team with the next five finishers earning second team honors.

Smith was fifth in the tournament for the Greyhounds with a score of 314.  Smith had rounds of 78 and 73 75 at the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, New York on September 18th and 19th before rounds of 81 and 82 this past weekend at Woodstone Country Club in Danielsville.

Fenyak, pictured at right, fired a 317 for the tournament after rounds of 79 and 77 in the fall.  This spring, Fenyak is a member of the starting rotation for Moravian’s baseball team but with a bye weekend from conference competition, he picked up his golf clubs for the first time since last fall and had rounds of 81 and 80 this past weekend.

Hartman had a four-round score of 321, finishing tied for ninth with Ryan Redfern from Susquehanna University.  Hartman, pictured at right. was in first after the two fall rounds with scores of 71 and 77 before finishing the championships with rounds of 88 and 85 this spring.

Moravian, which joined the Empire 8 Conference as an associate member in golf in the fall of 2009, was second of eight schools at the Empire 8 Championships.  The Greyhounds were tied for the lead with eventual champion St. John Fisher College after the opening two rounds last fall.
