FIVE MORAVIAN BASEBALL PLAYERS RANKED IN NCAA STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Five student-athletes from the Moravian College baseball team are ranked in the fifth NCAA Division III Baseball Statistics Ranking of the 2011 season released this week, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in seven team categories.

Junior pitcher Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) is ranked in six categories including being tied for fifth in the nation with eight victories.  Close, pictured at right, is second in earned run average at 0.62, eighth in strikeouts per nine innings at 12.10, sixth in strikeouts with 78, second in walks allowed per nine innings at 0.62 and fifth in hits allowed per nine innings at 4.81.

Senior outfielder Mike Zubia (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), pictured at left is tied for 57th in the country in triples with three this season.

Junior catcher Austin Rock (Arlington, VA/Flour Bluff {TX} HS) is currently tied for 93rd in toughest to strikeout with one strikeout every 18 at-bats.  Rock, pictured at right, has struck out just three times in 58 at-bats this season.

Junior pitcher Kyle Longernecker (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), pictured at bottom left, is tied for 15th with six saves this spring.

Freshman pitcher Jonathan Harasin (Springfield, VA/South County HS), pictured at bottom right, is tenth in earned run average at 1.10, tied for 70th in victories with five and 19th in walks allowed per nine innings at 1.10.

The Greyhounds are 16th in earned run average at 2.74, and Moravian is tied for 30th in stolen bases with 69, 30th in stolen bases per game at 2.46, 13th in walks allowed per nine innings at 2.53, 16th in hits allowed per nine innings at 7.88, 30th in strikeouts per nine innings at 7.8 and tied for 28th in winning percentage at .750.

Moravian, which is 23-7 overall and 11-1 in Landmark Conference action, is scheduled to return to the field on Friday, April 22nd in a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Drew University beginning at 12:00 p.m.
