MORAVIAN MEN’S TENNIS SQUAD TO TRAVEL TO DREW UNIVERSITY IN LANDMARK CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS

BETHLEHEM, PA --- The Moravian College men’s tennis team has earned the fourth seed in the 2011 Landmark Conference Championship Tournament and will travel to top seeded Drew University in a semifinal match on Tuesday, April 26th in Madison, New Jersey beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The Greyhounds are 8-5 overall and posted a 4-3 mark in the Landmark Conference regular season while the Rangers are 10-6 overall and 7-0 in Landmark Conference action.  Wednesday’s other semifinal has second seeded The University of Scranton hosting third seed The Catholic University of America.  The semifinal winners will meet on Saturday, April 30th at the highest remaining seed to determine the Landmark Conference Champion.

Moravian head coaches Bill Maxwell has led the Greyhounds in the postseason for the fifth straight season just his second year as head coach.  Moravian and Drew played for the conference title in 2009, the Greyhounds’ first-ever championship match appearance.

Junior Kevin Holze (Bayside, NY/St. Francis Prep HS leads Moravian with a 9-3 in singles with an 8-4 mark at first singles.  Junior Drew Shreter (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) has a 9-7 singles mark this season with an 8-5 mark at third singles while junior Nick Yelito (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua HS) is 9-7 singles record with a 2-3 slate at fifth singles and a 5-3 mark at fourth singles. 

Senior Doug Morrow (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) has posted an 8-5 singles record this year with an 8-4 mark at second singles while senior Thomas Turcich (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township HS) is 8-5 in singles action including 4-3 at fifth singles.  Junior Stefan Apostolos (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough HS) has a 3-5 mark with a 2-3 slate at fourth singles while junior Stefan Toulouse (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) has a 4-5 singles slate.  Junior David Chan (Macau, China/The Phelps School (PA) has a 1-0 record in his debut season with Moravian.

Morrow and Yelito have a 10-3 mark at first doubles for the Greyhounds while Shreter and Holze have a 7-2 mark at second doubles.  Apostolos and Holze have a 3-2 record in doubles action with a 3-1 mark at second doubles while Shreter and Turcich are 2-1 at third doubles. Toulouse and Turcich have a 5-0 mark this season in doubles action while Shreter and Yelito are 1-2.  Turcich has also won one doubles match with freshman Craig Bunting (Ambler, PA/LaSalle College HS) and sophomore Brad Kutcha (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park HS) while Shreter and Toulouse are 1-0 in doubles action.
