MORAVIAN’S PYTHON, MOHR & PAULUS NAMED TO CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT SOFTBALL TEAMS

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior pitcher Elizabeth Python (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman HS) has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District II College Division Softball First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America while senior outfielder Amanda Paulus (Easton, PA/Easton HS) and sophomore third baseman Shannen Mohr (Slatington, PA/Parkland HS) earned spots on the Third Team.

By making the All-District First Team, Python is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for Capital One Academic All-American® accolades, which will be announced on Thursday, May 26th.  Moravian has had 34 Captial One Academic All-Americans including 29 in the last 17 years.

To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America® accolades, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. The College Division is made up of all the NCAA Division II and III schools in the nation as well as all NAIA schools.  Student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools are named to the University Division Teams.  District II is made up of schools from Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Python, this week's Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week, has a 12-0 record this season with a 0.71 ERA, five shutouts, 17 walks and 78 strikeouts in 69.1 innings of work.  At the plate, she has four hits, three runs, a double, a triple and five RBIs.  Python, pictured at left, was the 2008 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and has been on the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll the last two seasons.  Python is majoring in psychology.

Python is the only Landmark Conference player on the Academic All-District First Team.  A total of six Landmark Conference players were honored on the three All-District squads.

Paulus, who is in her fourth season as an outfielder for the Greyhounds.  She has contributed a .373 average, 28 hits, 25 runs, six doubles, a triple, six homers and 23 RBIs.  Paulus, pictured at right, who made the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll the last two seasons, is majoring in biology.

Mohr is in her second season as Moravian’s starting third baseman.  She has a .463 average, 37 hits, 26 runs, eight doubles, two homers, 21 walks and 25 RBIs to lead the Greyhounds at the plate.  Mohr, pictured at left, is majoring in biology.

Moravian, which is ranked 23rd in the nation, has a 32-6 overall record and an 11-1 mark in the Landmark Conference regular season.  The Greyhounds are the top seed and will host the 2011 Landmark Conference Championship Tournament beginning on Friday, May 6th at 11:00 a.m. versus fourth seed The University of Scranton.
