MORAVIAN’S MOHR NAMED TO LOUISVILLE SLUGGER/NFCA ALL-AMERICA SECOND TEAM

STARKVILLE, MS --- Sophomore third baseman Shannen Mohr (Slatington, PA/Parkland HS) of the Moravian College softball team has been named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Second Team announced late Thursday by the NFCA at the championship banquet for the 2011 NCAA Division III World Series that begins Friday in Salem, Virginia.

Mohr becomes the fourth player in Moravian history to earn NFCA All-America honors, joining Heather Bortz, also a Parkland High School graduate who earned All-America accolades in 2003, 2004 and 2005, Meagan Hennessy, who was an All-American in 2004 and 2005, and Maria DeBonis, who earned All-America honors in .2007

Mohr was named the Landmark Conference Co-Player of the Year, and she earned spots on the NFCA All-East Region First Team, the Landmark All-Conference First Team and the SUNY Cortland Regional All-Tournament Team this season.  Mohr led Moravian at the plate this season with a .500 average, 51 hits, 32 runs, 11 doubles, three homers, a school record 29 walks and 31 RBIs, and she hit safely in 25 of Moravian’s last 27 games including a 17-game hitting streak, tied for the third longest in school history.  In two seasons, Mohr has collected 91 hits to go with a .391 average, 20 doubles, 11 homers, 72 RBIs, 55 walks and 181 assists in the field.

The Greyhounds under the direction of 18-year head coach John Byrne, who as a career mark of 581-182, posted a 37-9 overall record this spring, the 18th consecutive season that Moravian has won at least 23 games, and an 11-1 mark in Landmark Conference regular season action.  The Greyhounds, which have won over 30 games 12 times under Byrne including the last 11 years, won their 12th straight conference title with a fourth straight Landmark Conference Championship, and the program played in the conference tournament for the 16th time in 17 years.  Moravian also received a berth to the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament, its 13th berth in the last 14 years, posting a 2-2 record at the SUNY Cortland Regional last weekend.
