DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS PAUL MOYER LEAVING MORAVIAN FOR MCDANIEL COLLEGE

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Paul R. Moyer, Moravian College’s chair/director of physical education, athletics and recreation, resigned his position Wednesday after 11 years to become the athletics director at McDaniel College effective July 11th.  Moravian has begun a search process to fill the athletics director position.

During the eleven years of Moyer’s tenure as director of athletics, Moravian has captured 52 conference championships and has sent 30 teams to the ECAC Championships with nine titles and 24 teams to the NCAA Division III National Championships in team competition.  Moravian has also produced 16 individual track & field national champions over the last 11 years, and the school won the first two Landmark Conference President’s All-Sports Trophy.

“I have enjoyed my tenure at Moravian, and I am extremely happy with the quality of the experience that we are able to provide for our outstanding student-athletes,” Moyer said.  “The success of the program is due to the hard work and outstanding effort of our coaches and staff.  I’m looking forward to returning to Maryland and helping McDaniel achieve the same kind of success while being closer to my family.”

Moyer oversaw numerous improvements to the College’s athletics facilities including the installation of an artificial surface at Rocco Calvo Field and a new Mondo surface on the Timothy Breidegam Track as well as upgrades to Gillespie Baseball Field, Blue & Grey Softball Field, the Hoffman Tennis Courts and the HUB Quad.  Moravian also enhanced several coaching positions from part-time to full-time positions during Moyer’s tenure. He also developed an intern assistant coaching program.

Moyer came to Moravian after six years as the director of athletics at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.  Prior to his tenure at St. Mary’s, Moyer devoted four years as the Assistant Chair/Director for the Department of Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation at the University of Chicago. He also worked at Manhattanville College from July 1986 to August of 1990, serving first as Assistant Director of Athletics and Recreation before moving up to Associate Director and later Director. Moyer has also served as head men’s soccer coach at three schools during his tenure – Chicago, Manhattanville, and prior to that at Catholic University for two seasons.

Moyer’s other work experience includes four years on the NCAA Nominating Committee, the future of NCAA Division III Committee, the Landmark Conference Integration Institutes Committee and the Landmark Soccer and Tennis Committees. He was the first Chair of the Landmark Conference Athletic Directors committee and has served as President of the Capital Athletic Conference and two years as on the MAC operations committee. He also had an administrative stint with the US Olympic Organizing Committee, the World Cup Organizing Committee, professional soccer (NASL) and professional basketball (NBA).

Moyer and his wife Pam have two daughters, Sydney and Cara.
