MORAVIAN SOFTBALL SQUAD RANKED 21ST IN FINAL 2011 NFCA DIVISION III TOP 25 POLL

STARKVILLE, MS --- The Moravian College softball team is ranked 21st in the 14th and final National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division III Top 25 Poll for 2011 released Wednesday. 

National champion Linfield (OR) received all eight first-place votes and 200 points to hold down the top position for a 14th straight poll including the preseason while The University of Texas-Tyler is second with 188 points.  Christopher Newport University, the runner-up to Linfield, is third with 185 points while SUNY Cortland was fourth with 174 points and Eastern Connecticut State University rounds out the top five with 158 points. 

The Greyhounds, who have 40 points, were seventh in the preseason poll and tied for ninth in the first regular season poll before moving throughout the poll during the regular season, finishing in a tie for 21st in the final poll before the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.

Moravian finished its 2011 season at the NCAA Division III SUNY Cortland Regional with a 37-9 record on the season including a 5-3 loss to #11 Emory (GA) University on March 8th, and a doubleheader split winning 3-0 and losing 6-0 to then-ranked The College of New Jersey on March 17th.  The Greyhounds also fell to SUNY Cortland, 3-1, on May 14th.
