MORAVIAN TRACK & FIELD TEAMS RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III REGIONAL TEAM INDEX

NEW ORLEANS, LA --- The Moravian College men’s & women’s track & field teams are both ranked in the Mideast Region in the second NCAA Division III Regional Team Index of the 2011 indoor season released by the U S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Wednesday.  The Greyhound women remained third while men moved up to fourth place in the top-ten regional rankings.

The Greyhound women have a total of 176.99 points.  Johns Hopkins University is currently first in the Mideast Region with 264.54 points while Ursinus College is second at 221.75.  Haverford College trails Moravian in fourth place at 157.81 points.

The Greyhound men have a total of 145.02 points and moved up two spots from sixth in the initial rankings last week.  Haverford College leads the Mideast Region with 312.46 points while Gwynedd-Mercy College is second at 178.74 points.  Carnegie Mellon University holds down the third spot at 157.28 points.

A team's total point score is the sum of all points earned by that team in each event. Teams are allowed to select up to two athletes per event, and an athlete can only be used in a maximum of three events (not including relays). Only one relay team per event can be selected. Schools are responsible for submitting their own results. The points are based on the best marks in an event in the current season (it's not the athlete's personal best; it's their best this season), according to www.d3rankings.us which coordinates the poll.  Complete information and the polls can also be found at http://www.ustfccca.org/rankings/division-iii-rankings.

Moravian will return to action on Saturday, February 5th when they are set to travel to Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a quad-meet with Williams College and The United States Coast Guard Academy.  Both MIT’s men’s & women’s teams are ranked second in the New England Region Top Ten while the Williams women are first the New England Region and men are ranked third.
