‘HOUNDS WIN 3RD STRAIGHT MAC TITLE, DEFEATS LYCOMING, 6-3

BETHLEHEM, PA --- With singles and doubles victories from seniors Jessie Coughlin (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic HS) and Lynne Grzywacz (Blue Bell/Wissahickon HS), and freshman Corinne Kleinsmith (Shillington/Governor Mifflin HS), the Moravian College women’s tennis team won its third straight Middle Atlantic Conference title in a 6-3 victory over previously undefeated Lycoming College.

The victory was also the Lady Greyhounds 30th consecutive win and gave the squad a perfect 16-0 record this fall. Moravian also won the MAC Commonwealth League title for the third time in four years.

Coughlin and Grzywacz won at first doubles to improve their season record to 15-1. Coughlin’s victory at second singles improved her singles mark to 14-0 in 1998 and 62-2 lifetime. The co-captain finishes her career undefeated in dual matches. Grzywacz, the defending MAC Singles Champion and school-record holder for singles wins, finishes her career with a 15-1 record this season and a 65-6 overall record. The pair led Moravian to a 59-6 record over the last four seasons.

Kleinsmith combined with junior Marnie Heller (Shillington/Governor Mifflin HS) for a win at second doubles. Kleinsmith won at fourth singles to improve her mark to 14-1 on the year. Freshman Katie Copf (Allentown/Salisbury HS) won at fifth singles to finish the season at 11-2.

Moravian will host the MAC Individual Championships on Friday and Saturday, October 23rd and 24th at the Hoffman Courts in Bethlehem.
