LADY GREYHOUNDS CAPTURE MAC COMMONWEALTH LEAGUE TITLE

BETHLEHEM, PA --- With yesterday’s 8-1 win against FDU-Madison, the Moravian College women’s tennis team finished the regular season undefeated and captured its third Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth League Championship in the last four seasons with a perfect 7-0 record.

This season, the Lady Greyhounds have won all 14 matches they have played and been victorious in 28 consecutive outings.

Leading Moravian on the court have been seniors Lynne Grzywacz (Blue Bell/ Wissahickon HS) and Jessie Coughlin (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic HS). Grzywacz, the defending MAC Champion in singles, has a 13-1 record at first singles and holds the school record for career victories with a 63-6 mark. Coughlin won all 13 of her singles matches at second singles this fall to finish her fourth straight season undefeated. Her career mark is 61-2. As a doubles team, Grzywacz and Coughlin have posted a 13-1 record this season and a 22-1 career record.

Junior Marnie Heller (Shillington/Governor Mifflin HS) has a 9-4 record at third singles this season and has won 40 of 49 matches in her career. She has joined with former high school teammate Corinne Kleinsmith (Shillington/Governor Mifflin HS) for a 12-1 mark in doubles action.

Kleinsmith has posted a 12-1 mark in fourth singles this season while fellow freshman Katie Copf (Allentown/Salisbury HS) has a 10-1 mark in her debut season.

Five different players have seen action at sixth singles for Moravian this season. Senior Liz Chamberlain (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush HS) has a 4-3 record while sophomore Autumn Zander (Riegelsville/Bethlehem Catholic HS) has a 2-2 singles mark. Freshman Eleanor Flower (Plymouth, CT/Terryville HS) has a 2-0-1 record while junior Lyn Ramsey (Perkasie/ Pennridge HS) won her only match. Freshman Julie Simms (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS) lost her only match of the season against FDU-Madison.

Zander and senior Kate Rose (Hatboro/Hatboro Horsham HS) have a 10-2 record at third doubles while Ramsey and senior Julie Fanella (Hamilton Square, NJ/Steinert HS) have a 1-1 doubles mark.

The Lady Greyhounds will start the MAC playoffs at home on Saturday, October 17th with an 11:00 a.m. match with MAC Freedom League runner-up the University of Scranton. Moravian defeated Scranton, 5-4, on September 18th of this year. If Moravian wins on Saturday, the Lady Greyhounds will host the MAC Championship on Tuesday, October 20th at 1:00 p.m. against the winner of the Lycoming vs. Widener match.
